Race Information

Are you ready to race! Well here is everything you need to know!

Some Updated Race day info -

1) Parking Fee is $10 and is not covered by entrance fee, all racers, exhibitors and spectators parking a car in the park will need to pay this at the gate.

2) Personal Floatation Device (PFD)/Lifejacket is required to race in all races. Leashes are required for all racers as well.

3) There will be a taco truck serving lunch at the event although it is not covered by the race entry fee since dinner will be served at the Marin Yacht Club after the race.

Before we jump in the details lets do a little giving back first. The folks behind the scenes here at Battle of the Bay have decided to partner up with an organization that is fighting the good fight for the thing that makes our sport go – the water. A portion of the race sponsorship dollars and entry fees after our costs are covered will go to folks over at Baykeeper. For over two decades Baykeeper has been the pollution watchdog for San Francisco Bay, using science and advocacy to strengthen clean water laws and hold polluters accountable and we are excited to help them in their mission. Now on to the action. The Battle of The Bay is set up to be a one day paddling extravaganza with a Manufacture's Expo, Racing, and fun activities for the whole family. Here are the key details.

The event will take place at McNears Beach in San Rafael California on October 29th 2011. McNears Beach Park is set in a beautiful sheltered cove with facilities include a swimming pool, snack bar, sand volleyball courts, several group picnic and newly renovated tennis courts. The sandy bay side beach offers a fun, safe place for general beach recreation and super easy carry-in boat access for SUP and Prone Paddleboards. Click here for directions. 

  • A Manufacture's Expo will be set up all day long with all the latest boards and paddling gear for you to try out.
  • The racing action will feature Open (amateur), Elite, Elite Kahuna (over 200lbs) Kids, and Relay racing. The divisions will have both men's and women's fleets with age divisions of 0-49 and 50 and over.
  • All Elite and Elite Kahuna racing will be on 12'6" boards. The Open division is well, completely open; bring it if ya got it. Other board divisions include 14', Unlimited, and Prone. It takes 3 boards to make a class so bring your friends! The Prone fleets can race in Elite or Open.
  • All Competitors will be required to wear a life jacket (or bring it on their board) and must also have a leash. Kids must wear their life jackets.
  • Your registration fee includes entry to the divisional race you choose. It also includes a T-shirt & Goody bag, and entry for one person to the Gala Marin Yacht Club Party. 
  • The Entry Fees are as follows
    • Open/Age Group Race Class 4 mile (Prone, SUP Race, SUP Surf): $70.00
    • Elite and Kahuna Race Class 6 mile: $110.00
    • SUP Surf Board 2 Mile Race: $50.00
    • Relay Race 4 miles: $50.00 (per 4 person team)
    • Kids Race 2 miles: $15.00 (Ages 8-13)
    • Relay teams are 4 person teams with at least one female paddler and will race a 4 mile course. Each paddler will complete a one mile lap.

  • The 5k Cash Purse will be split evenly amongst the Elite men and women and must be raced on 12'6" boards. The Kahuna Division will also have a cash prize and also must use 12'6" boards. If a Kahuna division racer wins the race outright they will collect both cash prizes. All other divisions will be racing for trophies and SWAG!

The Purse

  • The Elites will race a 6 mile buoy coursethat will feature lots of turns.
    • The Open Division will have a 4 mile buoy course thatwill also feature turns
    • The First Place Junior racer in the Open fleet will receive a brand new Everpaddle SUP board!.
  • Relay teams are 3 person teams with at least one female paddler and will race a 3 mile course. Each paddler will complete a one mile lap.
  • After racing a fantastic party will be held one mile away from the race site at the prestigious Marin Yacht Club. The party is a no host bar with a BBQ. Registered competitors will receive a complimentary dinner ticket while guests will need to purchase a ticket at the party. Directions to the party click here
  • There will be a costume contest after racing at the Marin Yacht Club with Prixes on the line. 
  • Food Services for purchase will be available at the event.

    • 8:30am Skippers Meeting
    • 9am Open race (One Start)
    • 11am ELITE Race (One Start)

    • 4:30 Awards (at the race site)
    • 5:30 Party opens at MYC
